Based on the Act 214/2004 on University of Defence establishment, the University of Defence was built as of 1 September 2004, seating its headquarters in Brno. UoD rooted from the merged Military University of the Ground Forces (Vyškov), Brno Military Academy and Purkyne Military Medical Academy (Hradec Kralove) inheriting all rights and duties of the past military university-level schools.
